How to Prepare for your Home Newborn Shoot

Sharing beautiful little Harlee's home newborn shoot today, I always come away from a newborn shoot feeling that little bit more broody - but this one came with house and dog envy too!!

When booking an at home newborn shoot I always get asked so many questions, like does my house have to look pristine? Can we all get in the photos? Will it stress me out? - so today I thought I would share a couple of tips on how you can prepare for your home newborn shoot to make it as enjoyable and relaxing as possible!!

1. Choose which areas of your house you want to use

Ofcourse for photos the lighter the room the better they will look, so any rooms with big windows that feel nice and bright are perfect! Then also think about what you would like in the background - most people choose to have them in their newly decorated nursery, but you could also opt to have some in the main bedroom all on the bed or cuddled up on the sofa in the lounge. Your house doesn't have to look like a show home, the beauty of this style of shoot it that it is natural, telling the story of your little ones first home and what it looked like - so don't worry about everywhere being spotless!!

2. Plan your Outfits in advance (and baby's too!!)

Have a think about what you would like your photographs to look like, and what colours will suit your home best. I am a massive fan of neutrals so find that white, beiges, browns always look beautiful - and then you can put your baby in a simple white vest or baby grow, having the option to have their hands and feet out is great too so we can capture those little details!

3. A well fed baby is best!

Aim to feed your baby just before I arrive or at the start of your photoshoot, this way they will be content and sleepy for the rest of their shoot. Also if you would like photographs of you feeding your baby we can start with those too! I know how unpredictable babies can be so don't worry if things don't go to plan, I always allow time for feeding and changing, and we can take our time and wait for them to settle!

4. Get Everyone Involved!

... yes, even the dog!!! A home newborn shoot is perfect if you have a bigger family, other children, grandparents who would like to be involved and ofcourse your pets too!! It's so lovely to have these memories with the whole family included and by being in your own home it makes for a much more relaxed and natural photoshoot.
